I love this. I'm not sure what it says about my femininity, but I certainly have been enjoying rototilling, planting, and weeding more than I've enjoyed doctoring lately. It's much more consequential!

I agree that Florence King is on target regarding the differences in the way men and women regard blue collar work. How many mothers tell their children to study so they don't end up ditch diggers? The notion of "honest" labor has fallen away.

My husband's occupation involved physical labor while mine was meetings and computers. He could look at what he accomplished at the end of each day while I never felt that I did a thing. I know in fact that I accomplished a lot but it was nothing tangible.
